22lr/shotgun selection
Hey all-
I want to pick up a .22LR rifle this week... Have had my eye on this Ruger model for a while now - any opinions? http://www.ruger.com/Firearms/images/Products/109L.jpg In the next couple of weeks I'd also like to pickup a shotgun as well (currently I only own a 9mm Ruger handgun). Have been considering this Mossberg Model (Mariner): http://www.ableammo.com/catalog/images/ssi/46272.jpg Would appreciate any input for you guys... The intent is home protection and bird shooting for the shotgun and squirrel/target practice for the 22. (as you can probably tell I like the steel/black look) :D |
Re: 22lr/shotgun selection
The Ruger 10/22 and the Mossberg 500 are both well regarded.
Those are fine choices. Edit to add: the Mossberg 500 combo that Big 5 sells is probably a better deal. Unless you live on a boat the Mariner finish is really overkill. The combo comes with a full length (28") barrel for hunting and an 18" barrel for home defense. |

+1 on the choices...I might add a trigger kit for the 10-22 someday.

Thanks for the feedback...
I don't have a Big5 where I live (Chicagoland) - just Cabella's & stores like Dick's Sporting goods - I will shop around this week to check prices at those places and also the smaller gun shops. I think I will definitely pick up the .22 this week. Just had Easter dinner with my parents and my father said he'll hand down one of his shotguns to me... not quite sure what he has but it will at least be a start. May just pick up the Mariner in a month or two anyways - I just love the way it looks and it seems to be good for home protection type scenario's... I mentioned I also have a handgun (Ruger P89) - I found a nice little lock box for it via Walmart.com (little ones are getting bigger every day and its time to secure it a little better) - I just placed my order a few days ago so I don't have it yet but its got great reviews on several sites and seems like it would be great for "quick access" to the gun when needed - no fiddling with keys, etc.... Re: 22lr/shotgun selection
Slinging those shot shooties scares the heck out of me. Barrel always ends up at my ear.
I've carried barrel down but thats just not right. I need some other type of sling. Mum you bandoleer must weigh 10lbs. Good choices--Thats what I have (Remington version) E-A |
